I meant 3/8 of his money
let the original amount be x
he spent 3x/8, leaving him with 5x/8
he spends half of that , leaving him with 5x/16
5x/16 = 6.25
5x = 100
x = 20
He started with $20.00
check: he spends (3/8)(20) or $7.50, leaving him with $12.50
He has 1/2 of that left or (1/2)(12.50) = $6.25
