On a three day hike, Robert hiked twice as many miles on the first day as on the second day. On the third day he hiked 5 miles. Carlos hiked 5 miles on the first day and three times as many miles on the second day as on the third day.
(a) Write and simplify an expression for the total number of miles Robert hiked.
(b) Robert hiked 6 miles on the second day. How many miles did Robert hike in all?
(c) If Carlos hiked 4 miles on the third day, which boy hiked a greater total distance? Explain.
For part (a), I wrote x (2) + 5 = x
For part (b), I wrote 6 + 5 = 11 miles
For part (c), I wrote Carlos, because 15 + 4 = 19. If this is not correct, please help me?
------------------------------
R1 = 2R2
R2 = R2
R3 = 5
R = 3 R2 + 5
===========
C1 = 5
C2 = 3 C3
C3 = C3
C = 4 C3 + 5
===============
R = 3(6) + 5 = 23
C = 4(4) + 5 = 21
It was a typo. It should have said Robert instead of Matt. Please help me
