Introduction to Tenses for Grade 2 English Home Language
The lesson on tenses was introduced by engaging the students with a fun and relatable storytelling activity. The teacher presented a short story featuring their favorite characters, using vivid illustrations to capture the students' attention. As the story unfolded, the teacher paused at key moments to ask questions about what the characters were doing at different times – what they did yesterday, what they are doing right now, and what they will do tomorrow.
Students were encouraged to express their thoughts and share their own experiences related to the actions in the story. This interactive approach not only made the concept of tenses more relatable but also allowed them to connect their own lives to the lesson. The teacher then explained that these different times – past, present, and future – are called tenses, laying the groundwork for further exploration of how to use them in their writing and speaking.
