Independent assortment occurs here.
Meiosis 1 meiosis 2 or both
1 answer
Both Meiosis I and Meiosis II involve independent assortment. During Meiosis I, homologous chromosomes separate and align randomly at the metaphase plate, leading to the random assortment of maternal and paternal chromosomes into daughter cells. During Meiosis II, sister chromatids also separate randomly, further increasing genetic diversity through independent assortment.
