In your own words( 1 paragraph) what was the legacy of reconstruction in regards to the goals they accomplished?
1 answer
The legacy of Reconstruction was a period of time in which the United States attempted to rebuild and reunite the country after the Civil War. While some progress was made in terms of addressing racial inequalities and providing basic rights to newly freed slaves, the goals of Reconstruction ultimately fell short. Many Southern states quickly began implementing oppressive laws like Jim Crow laws that enforced segregation and denied African Americans their newly gained rights. The legacy of Reconstruction also led to the rise of racial violence and discrimination that continued to have lasting effects on American society for generations to come.
