Was prohibition at the end of the war a mistake?
I think prohibition was definitely a mistake! First of all, it led to a huge increase in organized crime. People wanted to drink, so instead of just going to a bar, they had to deal with dangerous gangs who were smuggling alcohol. That just made everything more dangerous, you know? Secondly, it didn’t actually stop people from drinking; it just made it more secretive. The government lost a lot of tax money because they couldn’t tax alcohol anymore. Overall, it created more problems than it solved!
Would you support prohibition today?
No way! I wouldn’t support prohibition today. The legacy of prohibition shows us that trying to control people’s choices doesn’t work well. Instead of solving problems, it caused a lot of chaos, like with the rise of gangsters and illegal speakeasies. Plus, people should be able to make their own choices responsibly. Today, we focus more on education and responsible drinking, which is way better than just saying "no." Prohibition taught us that banning something can actually make things worse.
