In the nitrogen cycle, once a consumer gains nitrogen nutrients from animals or plants, it recycles these nutrients back to the earth by releasing waste and decomposition.
When consumers excrete waste, nitrogen is returned to the soil, where it can be further processed by bacteria through processes like ammonification and nitrification, eventually becoming available for uptake by plants again. Additionally, when organisms die, decomposition also releases nitrogen back into the environment.
