In new Your a taxi costs 72 cents for the first 1/10th of a mile and 15 cents for every additional 1/10th mile. How much does it cost to drive 6 miles?

I do not understand how you got this answer...can you explain?
.72+ .15(6-.1).1 = $9.57 When I work the problem i get $9.62 thanks

0.72 + (0.15 * 59) =

0.72 + 8.85 = $9.57
you do not pay fifteen cents for the first .1 mile. It is included in the 72 cents.
However if it is 15 cents for 1/10 mile, then it is 1.50 per mile and I think that .15(6-.1).1 should really be
.15(6-.1)/.1
anyway whoever wrote that then did the calculation correctly

.72 + 1.50 (5.9) = $9.57
