In my music history class we have to write a paper that involves music from the 1960s. I need a song that is satire, which is making fun of the Government during the Vietnam War.
OK, Samantha, you're really aging us now. We all clearly remebmer the song "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag" sung by Country Joe McDonald (actually the band was Country Joe and the Fish). This was a protest song about the Vietnam war, and it became famous because it was sung at the huge Woodstock music festival in 1969.
Thank you for your question! :-)
Tom Lehrer was one of the sharpest writers of satirical songs in the 1960s. I practically memorized the songs in his album, "That Was the Year That Was." It's been fun hearing these protest songs again!
You'll find the lyrics to these songs in this site. The most satirical songs that were against the government were: "Send in the Marines," "So Long, Mom," and "Who's Next?"
