In Herman Melville's Moby-Dick, what happens to Parsee?

1 answer

Parsee, also known as Fedallah, is a mysterious and enigmatic character in Moby-Dick who serves as the harpooneer on Captain Ahab's whaling boat. Towards the end of the novel, during Ahab's final confrontation with Moby Dick, Parsee is swept overboard and drowns. His body is later found floating in the water, still clinging to the coin that Ahab gave him as payment for his services. His death is a symbol of the ultimate futility and tragedy of Ahab's quest for revenge against the white whale.
