I think the theme of this story is that little things can make a big difference. In this story, Eckels lets himself go on a very expensive trip to the age of the dinosaurs. Despite the many countless warnings to be careful and stay on the path, he steps off the path of fear and confusion. Due to that mistake, he has killed a butterfly. He realizes that it is too late and that they shouldn't be there. A quote to support this is, “We were fools to come. This is impossible.” when he returns back home, he realizes his one mistake in killing the butterfly has cause some huge changes, history is not the same and a Hitler like person has been elected president. *quote here
