a normal working day the mill makes 3 times as many units of plywood as they do lumber.profit of lumber is $25 profit of plywood is $40 how many of each must be sold to obtain a profit of $14790
let the number of lumber units be x
then the number of plywood units is 3x
then 25x + 40(3x) = 14790
solve for x
then the number of plywood units is 3x
then 25x + 40(3x) = 14790
solve for x
so... i just pick any number
no, you solve the equation
( why would you think to just pick any number ??)
25x + 40(3x) = 14790
25x + 120x = 14790
145x = 14790
divide by 145
x = 102
so they should make 102 units of lumber
and 3(102) or 306 units of plywood.
check 102(25) + 306(40) = 14790
