Gene expression is the process by which information from a gene in DNA is used to make a protein. It starts with transcription, where the DNA is copied into a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule in the nucleus. The mRNA then travels to the ribosome, where translation occurs, and the mRNA is read to assemble amino acids into a protein. This protein will then perform various functions in the cell, helping the organism grow and respond to its environment.
In 3–4 sentences, make and construct a summary of the process of gene expression, starting with DNA and ending with proteins. Please make your answer simple, yet coherent, and intended for 9th grade.
