In 2-3 sentences, list an example of figurative language (simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, idiom, etc.). Then, using the R.A.C.E strategy (restate, answer, cite evidence, explain evidence) as best you can, explain why your answer is figurative language and what the meaning is.
Example: I was so tired that I could have fallen asleep standing up. This sentence is an example of figurative language, specifically a hyperbole. It is a hyperbole because it is an exaggeration. While I was extremely tired and could have easily fallen asleep, it was an exaggeration that I could actually fall asleep while standing up. Make it sound like a seven year old.

I was as hungry as a bear! This is an example of a simile, comparing being hungry to a bear. It is figurative language because it is not meant to be taken literally. It means the person was extremely hungry, but it doesn't mean they actually felt like a bear or had the appetite of a bear.

Onomatopoeia is when a word sounds like the sound it is describing. For example, "buzz" is an onomatopoeia because it sounds like the buzzing noise of a bee.
