In my opinion, the challenge of not speaking English had the biggest impact on immigrants coming to the United States in the late 1800s. Language barriers made it difficult for newcomers to secure jobs, access essential services, and communicate with their communities, which further isolated them. This lack of communication could lead to misunderstandings and fostered resentment from nativist groups, who often viewed immigrants as outsiders. As a result, many immigrants struggled to assimilate and navigate their new environment, which significantly impacted their ability to succeed and integrate into American society.
Immigrants who came to the United States in the late 1800s faced many challenges. Some of these being not speaking English as many prior immigrants did. Another challenge was the difference in religious practices. Immigrants also were not as well educated before they arrived and faced backlash from nativist groups.
