Imagine you need to design a container that can keep an ice cube from melting for as long as possible. What are the most important things you would need to think about to make you container work well? What rules or criteria would you use to help guide your design?

Create at least one criteria and explain why it is important. Make it look like a 11-12 year old made it

Designing a Super Ice Cube Container!

When I'm designing a container to keep ice cubes from melting, there are a few really important things to think about. Here’s what I’ll consider:

Key Things to Think About:

  1. Insulation: The container needs good insulation to keep the cold air in and the warm air out. This helps slow down the melting of the ice cube.

  2. Size and Shape: The size and shape of the container can affect how long the ice lasts. A smaller container with less air space could be better because there’s less warm air to make the ice melt.

  3. Materials: The materials used to make the container are super important! I should choose materials that don’t conduct heat well, like Styrofoam or double-wall glass.

  4. Seal: The container should have a tight seal. If it’s not sealed well, warm air can sneak in and make the ice melt faster!

  5. Reflective Surface: Adding a reflective surface, like aluminum foil, could help bounce heat away from the container.

Criteria for My Design:

Criteria: Insulation Effectiveness

Why It’s Important: Insulation is really important because it helps keep the cold air in and the warm air out. Good insulation means the ice cube will stay cold longer, which means it won’t melt as fast. If the walls of the container are thin or made of regular plastic, they might not keep the heat out, and all the hard work will be for nothing! So, my goal is to find the best insulating materials and build thick walls for the container. This way, I can keep my ice cube solid and enjoy my chilly drink for a longer time!

By using this criterion and thinking about all these factors, I can create a super cool container to keep my ice cubes from melting quickly. I can't wait to test it out! 🧊✨
