The Last Person on Earth
I stood alone in my empty house, feeling the silence wrap around me like a heavy blanket. Suddenly, a knock echoed through the stillness, causing my heart to race. I slowly approached the door, hoping it was not just my imagination playing tricks on me. After all, I hadn’t seen another person for months.
With trembling hands, I opened the door. To my surprise, there was a small, scruffy dog sitting on my doorstep. I was taken aback; how had this little creature survived in a world without humans? The dog looked up at me with wide, hopeful eyes, wagging its tail as if to say, “I need you!”
I knelt down, overwhelmed with joy and disbelief. It felt like a miracle to see another living being. I scooped the dog into my arms and felt an instant connection. In that moment, I realized I was not entirely alone.
We spent our days exploring the empty streets and sharing meals. The dog brought laughter and companionship back into my life. I named him Hope, because that is exactly what he represented to me. Even in a world so quiet and abandoned, we found a way to be happy together.
