The Knock at the Door
I sat alone in my silent house, the only person remaining on Earth. The world outside was still, with nature reclaiming places once bustling with life. Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door. My heart raced—was I imagining things, or was someone really there? I stood up slowly, unsure of how I should feel. A mix of hope and fear surged through me as I approached the door.
I opened it cautiously, gripping the handle tightly. To my surprise, I saw a stranger standing there, looking just as shocked as I was. “Hello?” I managed to say, my voice trembling. The stranger smiled, relief washing over their face. They explained that they had been hiding and thought they were the last one left.
In that moment, I felt a sense of happiness I hadn't felt in a long time. It was like a light had entered my dark world. Together, we stepped outside to face the new reality. The world was big, but now, at least, I wasn’t alone anymore.
