Two things to think about:
1. I've heard people say (and I'm not sure if I agree or not; still thinking on this one) that if the Gulf War had not ended short of deposing (or whatever) Saddam Hussein, then we wouldn't be in this mess now. It's a thinking point, not a truth, since there's no way to predict the future, then or now!

Other teachers will have further thoughts, no doubt.
I'm writing a paper on "Operation Desert Storm" of 1991, and I understand the facts. But one of the questions my teacher wants me to answer is: What is the significance of your topic?
