I'm supposed to write a poem in iambic pentameter and then scan it (with stressed and unstressed marks). However, I can't seem to figure out where to put the marks over the words / figure out how to do it with syllables.

I'm sure you know an iamb is
"ta dum" unaccented, accented.

For instance, i'm SURE you KNOW an IAMB

If you are unsure of where a stress is on a word, you can check your dictionary. Stresses are marked. If you will write your poem, we will be glad to help you if you run into a problem finding stress or finding a substitute word that will fit the meter

when 7 lines in a poem rhyme with stressed and unstressed syllables

It was a very warm day at the shore
The golden sand went on for miles and miles
Spending time at the beach was not a chore
With pails the children grouped the sand in piles
Little Annie-Jane wore a straw sun hat
The hat was adorned with a silk red bow
The girl’s mother sat aside on a mat
Little Susie- Mae played with her head low
The girls wore black and white sun attire
The girls watched the horizon for sailboats
The blazing sun set their cheeks on fire
The hot and dry atmosphere dried their throats
While the summer day was incandescent
The joy of the beach is effervescent
