Im a Danish student, and I've written this summary which I would like someone to correct. Thanks in advance!
In the short story”Beyond the pale”, published in 1888, author Rudyard Kipling states via his narrator that one should stick to its caste. Trejago, who's a white man, transgresses this boundary because of his excitement in the native life. He presses on into the alley, Amir Nath's Gully, where meets and begins a dangerous affair with Bisesa, a fifteen-year-old widow. One thing leads to another and they secretly become passionate lovers. Despite his feelings, he pays heavily for stepping beyond the limits of his own people. The discovery of the affair precipitates violence and tragedy. The passage of horror, Bisesa has her hands severed from her body and her white lover is deeply wounded in the groin. The embarrassing lapse comes to him and he looses his reason. He returns to the law-abiding world of colonial respectability, from which he will never venture again.
