If you slam your finger in a car door how can you thank Coulomb's Law for the fact your finger wasn't chopped off? I don't understand.

The "Coulomb" electrostatic repulsion between atoms and molecules results is a very strong repusion force that makes it hard to compress them to densities higher than the solid or liquid state. However, it does not prevent the possibility of fracturing bones or severing fingers by cutting. When caught is a slammed door, presumably the finger has nowhere else to go, and does not get chopped off. .
