Identify the physical states of ethanol at 0°C
3 answers
At 0°C, ethanol can exist in both liquid and solid states. It will be in a liquid state if its temperature is higher than its freezing point (-114.1°C), and in a solid state if its temperature is lower than its freezing point. However, at atmospheric pressure (1 atm), ethanol will not be in a gaseous state at 0°C as its boiling point is 78.37°C.
Solid
At 0°C, ethanol can exist in a solid state or be frozen as a crystalline material. Its freezing point is -114.1°C and therefore, at 0°C, ethanol will certainly be in a solid state. This solid state of ethanol at 0°C is also known as its freezing point.
