how did you get 0.75 divided by 112.50?
can someone else help me understand?

#6 After an article is discounted at 25% it sells for $112.50. The original price of the article was? answer 150.00

#7 A plane left new york at 3:30 p.m. est and arrived in los angelas at 4:15 p.m. Pst. How long did the flight take?
I usually get these kinds of questions but with the time changes i don't get it. answer 3 hrs and 15 mins
my book has that answer on it but i agree with you.

To begin, I did work the problem an awkward way. I didn't know if you were into Xs and Ys so I tried another approach.
Let's let X = the original price.
Then it is discounted by 25% which is 0.25 (percent means out of 100, so divide 25% by 100 to obtain 0.25).
So we take the original price, X, and subtract from it 0.25X (the amount it is discounted) and the problem says the result is 112.50. We just make an equation out of that.

Original price - discount = 112.50
X - 0.25X = 112.50
1X - 0.25X = 112.50
1.00X - 0.25X = 112.50
0.75X = 112.50
X = 112.50/0.75 = 150 = original price.

Perhaps another tutor will look at #2 and see if they get the book answer.

The answer for # 7 is not 3 hours and 15 minutes.

When the plane leaves New York at 3:30 p.m., EST, it's 12:30 p.m., PST in Los Angeles. There's a 3-hour time difference.

It arrives in L.A. at 4:15 p.m., PST.

4:15 - 12:30 = 3 hours and 45 minutes
