all you had to do was to sub in the answers into the equation
to decide if you are right, that's what I just did
how are you doing these?

Solve by using the quadratic formula.
8. x^2 + 7x -3= 0
answer: x= 7.40 and x=0.40
9. 5x^2 -8x -4=0
answer: x=1.49 and x=0.11
10. 3x^2 + x -1= 0
answer: x= -2 and x= 1.67
