I have to complete an internet search to find 3 examples of mission statements for human services organizations. Then I have to write 1050-1400 word paper evaluating the mission statements. Show how each one of the mission statements does or does not meet the requirements of a good mission statement. I need some input on what I am doing. I have the mission statements but do not know what needs to be done next. Here is what I have so far.
A mission statement needs to be written down because, in fact, all companies have missions. The company was founded for a purpose, with a customer base in mind and hopefully, some sense of civic and personal duty. A “good” mission statement will capture the “vision” of the company, not just for the next financial report. The mission statement identifies what is important to the company, who the stakeholders are, why the company exists and some sense guidance for employees. The 3 mission statements that I took a look at are the following:
1. Mission statement of the Department of Radiology is:
1.To deliver high-quality medical care to our patients,
2.To educate health-care professionals, and
3.To increase our understanding of health and disease (Duke University, Para. 1).
2. University of California, San Francisco Office of Continuing Medical Education. The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine Continuing Medical Education Program provides lifelong learning opportunities for health care professionals in all areas of clinical care and research by providing diverse educational activities that aim to increase knowledge, attitude, and skills, enhance practice performance and improve the health status of patients. These goals are integral to UCSF’s overall mission by the continued development, conduct and evaluation of live courses, regularly scheduled conferences, enduring materials and Internet CME.
3. Texas Woman’s University mission statement is. The Office of Human Resources is dedicated to the Texas Woman’s University mission of student success through development of its faculty and staff. Through integrity and quality, Human Resources provides customer service and resources to meet the University’s requirements in the areas of Affirmative Action, Benefits, Compensation, Employee Relations, Equal Opportunity, Payroll, Records, Recruiting and Training and Development.
You'll need to start with a list of the characteristics of a good mission statement. Then check each of the actual statements you found to see if they fulfill these characteristics. These sites have information about good mission statements.
