I have hard time understanding this wordings :(

Turner thesis* by about a hundred years: the myth of the American west did more than anything else to shape the American character. Civilization by its very nature takes away our freedom, but as Americans we can always find freedom in the wilderness. As Emerson said about the same time Cooper was telling us about Natty Bumppo, “In the woods we return to reason and faith.” According to Turner, the actual frontier ended in about 1880, but the idea of the frontier is still in the American mind. We can always escape our current circumstances by going west.

From reading that above, I need to answer this question:

According to the Turner Thesis

a)the major force shaping the American character was puritanism

b)the American character was shaped by the frontier

c)Americans need to fear above all things else socialism

d)each gives according to his abilities and receives according to his needs

If I understood correctly, than is the answer b??

Yes, you're right.
I think you're right. If I were you, I'd go with B, because he believed that the development of the American frontier shaped the character and institutions of the American people.

Trust me.
