I have been searching for over an hour - please help what is the difference between capital crime and an infamous crime

1 answer

A capital crime (or capital offense) is defined by law as one for which the death penalty could be imposed. The word "capital" comes from the Latin caput meaning head. So a capital crime started as a crime for which the offender could literally lose his head.

An infamous crime is one in which the person could be imprisoned for at least a year.
