Yes.
Don't use x as a multiplication sign, use * or use brackets, so I see your product as
(a)(b)(a)(b)
= (ab)^2
or
= a^2 b^2

when you say
ab^2, it is only the b that is squared.
You’re wrong it’s a squared b squared
