I cannot find the answer to this question, or even any part of it:

In the Monroe Doctrine, What countries was Monroe specifically addressing? What might the threat be from each of the four?

My guess is that Britain is one because they could colonize America again. Maybe France but I'm not sure. But could anyone help me out or give some links with information? It would be very helpful

especially this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monroe_doctrine

Be sure to read this through carefully. Then think -- which Eurpoean nations were the ones who had practiced colonization in the Americas (the western hemisphere)? Those are the primary ones he's addressing, although it's not limited to just those.

What do you think?

The first two paragraphs names the four nations that appeared to be somewhat of a threat to us and in our plans for territorial expansion.

You could in reality think of the major powers that were competitors in gaining territory and establishing colonies in the New World. The exception is Portugal.

Please also note that these four powers did not take our warning seriously, nor did we take it seriously by ourselves for many years. You will come across the Monroe Doctrine and its interpretations later this school year when you study the US expansionist policies in the Western Hemisphere beginning in the 1890s.
