Yes, this is a poem. It can be categorized as a free verse poem due to its lack of a specific meter or rhyme scheme. The poem explores themes of self-perception, inner turmoil, and emotional pain, employing vivid imagery and strong emotions to convey the speaker's struggle with their identity and feelings of self-loathing. The use of visceral descriptions and the dramatic action of shattering the mirror emphasizes the intensity of the speaker's experience.
I awake to another day
I get up, the mirror taunting me
I see my disheveled state
A face that doesn’t belong to me, stares
A body that doesn’t feel right, moves
Not another moment went by before catastrophe struck
My fist colliding with the reflective glass
Shards scattered around myself as blood dripped
The sound echoed through my room
The red liquid collecting on the ground mocked me
As I saw my reflection puddling under me, I saw only one thing
It served no other purpose than to hurt and patronize
It sneered and threatened to start a fight
It made my skin crawl and my brain melt
My eyes flooded, the salty water joining the blood surrounding me
I saw the truth
