( 1 1 / 2 ) / 2 = ( 3 / 2 ) / 2 = 3 / 4 cup for one pie.
5 1 / 4 = 5 + 1 / 4 = 20 / 4 + 1 / 4 = 21 / 4
5 1 / 4 / ( 3 / 4 ) = 21 / 4 / ( 3 / 4 ) = 21 / 3 = 7 pies
I am a mom that can't figure out how to help my daughter with this problem.
Alicia is making pies. She uses 1 1/2 cups of sugar for every 2 pies. She has 5 1/4 cups left. How many more pies can she make?
I think the answer is 7 pies but not sure how to teach her how do figure this out. Do I take the 1 1/2 and convert to 3/2 and the 5 1/4 to 21/4 and add together to get 27/4?
