how you can use a number line to show that 3/6 and 1/2 are equivalent fractions

draw a number line

mark it off in units of 1/6
using a different color, mark it off in units of 1/2

You will see that the 3rd mark on the 1/6 line is the same as the first mark on the 1/2 line.
