How were the Metis of the red river self-sufficient?

They do farming. Grow vegetables, and all that food.

Did they fish or hunt?

What did they use for housing?
The northwest To 1870.
I think they did fur trading for the NW Company. I think they were farmers too, not sure if they were only part-time farmers.
It doesn't make any difference whether they were full or part-time farmers. They still grew food crops. I'll bet they also hunted and fished to provide protein for their diets.
Yeah it says they hunted the bison, skills that they had learned. Had cows that provided them with milk. Then they traded Pemmican with the NW company.

So is this what made them self-sufficient
