Plessy v Ferguson said that segregation was okay as long as things were equal for black and white people. But the reality was that things were not equal at all. One example is in schools. Black schools were often crowded and run-down, while white schools were nice and had more resources. Another example is in public places. Black people had to use different bathrooms and water fountains, which were usually dirty and poorly maintained compared to the ones for white people. Overall, the ruling of "separate but equal" was not fair because black people were treated much worse than white people.
