Malala’s family was different than most Pashtun families primarily in that they were supportive of education for girls and valued Malala's pursuit of schooling. Many Pashtun families traditionally prioritized boys' education over girls', but Malala's family, particularly her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, emphasized the importance of education for all children, regardless of gender. This progressive attitude set them apart from many in their community.
While aspects like being poor, living with her grandfather, praying regularly, and having a happy family were part of their life, it was their strong advocacy for female education that significantly distinguished them in the context of their cultural background.
