To make a New York Steamer Sub similar to Firehouse Subs, follow these steps:
Ingredients:
- French or Italian sub roll
- 4-6 slices pastrami
- 4-6 slices corned beef or roast beef
- 2 slices provolone cheese
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon deli-style spicy brown mustard
- 1 tablespoon Italian dressing
- 1/4 cup sliced dill pickles
- 1/4 cup sliced banana peppers or pepperoncini
- Salt and pepper
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Slice the sub roll horizontally, but do not cut it all the way through. Leave a hinge to keep the sandwich intact.
3. Spread yellow mustard on one side of the inside of the roll and mayonnaise on the other side.
4. Lay the pastrami and corned beef/roast beef slices on top of the roll.
5. Place the provolone cheese slices on top of the meats.
6. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
7. Close the sub roll and wrap tightly in aluminum foil.
8. Place the wrapped sub in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the meats are warmed through.
9. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together the deli-style spicy brown mustard and Italian dressing.
10. Remove the sub from the oven and carefully unwrap it from the foil.
11. Drizzle the prepared mustard and dressing mixture evenly over the top of the sub.
12. Top the sub with sliced dill pickles and banana peppers/pepperoncini.
13. Wrap the sub back in the foil to help hold it together and let the flavors meld for a few minutes.
14. Unwrap, slice into halves or thirds, and serve hot.
