How many valence electrons are in carbon tetrachloride?

3 answers

I'm not sure what you question is. If we define valence electrons as the outermost electrons in atoms, then there will be 4 for C and 7 each for Cl or 28 + 4 = 32 but not all of those are involved in bond formation.
Well it says to find valence electrons to make the Lewis dot diagram, I'm not sure if that helps.
OK. There are 32 electrons available to make the Lewis structure for CCl4. Here is a site but do it yourself before you look at the site. The site is just to check yourself.
