pH is the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration ... -log[H+]
neutral pH (water) is 7 ... 10^-7 is the dissociation constant
... H2O ⇌ H+ + OH-
a pH of 12 is 5 orders of magnitude from a pH of 7
... 10^(12 - 7) = 10^5 = 100,000
How many more times basic is bleach (pH of 12) than distilled water (neutral pH)?
Answer= 100,000
Can someone explain how to get this answer?

pH=-log[x]
Where x=an arbitrary number.
Each whole number increase in the ones place in pH corresponds to a 10 fold increase.
pH of 12 to 7 corresponds to 5-10 told increases. 10*10*10*10*10=100,000
Going from 12- 7 because pH measures H^+ concentrations.
