How is 3x2 different from 3 to the 2nd power ?

3 to the 2nd power is 3 time 3.
I think its like this...
3 to the second power is 3x3 which equals 9, but 3x2 equals 6 which is multiplication and has nothing to do with the powers and stuff. Its kinda weird at first but you will get used to doing it right.Another example is 3 to the 5th power.
3x3x3x3x3. 3x3=9,9x3=27,27x3=108,108x3=432.
