This causes them to rise towards the surface of the pot in a process known as convection, transferring heat energy from the bottom to the top of the pot. Finally, some of the heat energy is transferred from the pot to the surrounding air through radiation, as the hot pot emits infrared radiation that warms up the air in its vicinity.

In this example, energy is transferred between the stove, the pot, the water, and the air through the processes of conduction, convection, and radiation. Ultimately, the heat energy is distributed and transferred among these objects until thermal equilibrium is reached.
