In Excel, you can copy the format from one cell to another using several methods. Here are the most common ones:
1. Format Painter Tool
- Select the Cell: Click on the cell with the formatting that you want to copy.
- Format Painter: Go to the Home tab on the Ribbon, and click on the Format Painter icon (it looks like a paintbrush).
- Apply Format: Click on the cell (or drag over a range of cells) where you want to apply the format.
2. Keyboard Shortcut
- Select the Cell: Click on the cell with the desired formatting.
- Copy and Paste Special:
- Copy the Cell: Press Ctrl + C to copy the cell.
- Select Target Cell(s): Click on the cell(s) where you want to apply the formatting.
- Paste Special: Press Ctrl + Alt + V (or right-click and choose Paste Special), then choose Formats from the list and click OK.
3. Using the Right-Click Context Menu
- Select the Cell: Click on the cell with the formatting you want to copy.
- Copy the Cell: Right-click and select Copy from the context menu.
- Select Target Cell(s): Right-click on the cell(s) where you want to apply the formatting.
- Paste Special: Choose Paste Special, select Formats, and click OK.
4. Using Excel's Ribbon Menu
- Select the Cell: Click on the cell with the desired formatting.
- Copy the Cell: Press Ctrl + C or use the Copy button in the Ribbon.
- Select Target Cell(s): Click on the cell(s) where you want to apply the formatting.
- Use Paste Options: Click on the drop-down arrow under the Paste button in the Ribbon and select Paste Special, then choose Formats.

- The Format Painter can also be double-clicked to apply the formatting to multiple cells until it is turned off by clicking the Format Painter button again or pressing the
Esc
key.
