The speed of light is about 3 x 10^8 meters/sec.but your intuition should have told you light is much faster than sound. Think abou this.
When a thunderstorm approaches you see a flash of lightning and SOMETIME LATER you hear the sound of the thunder. So light is traveling faster than the sound. In fact, you can make an approximate guess how far the storm is away from you by counting the seconds between the flash and the sound. For every 5 seconds difference the thunderhead is approximately 1 mile away.
