How do the properties of methane relate to its molecular structure?

Ok, one example. The molecule is a regular tetrahedron so all the bond lengths are identical so all the reactions of all the H atoms are identical. This, however, does not distinguish the tetrahedron from two other possible structures, square base pyramid and a planar molecule.
