How do I use pythagorean theorem if I already know what c is, but I am missing one of the legs?

If you know the length of one of the legs, a (besides the hypotenuse, c), then use
b^2 = c^2 - a^2
and solve for the unknown leg length, b.

This only works IF it is a right triangle.
