Some headline's that could be described as yellow journalism is, "Destruction of the war ship Maine was the work of an enemy," and at the bottom, "Naval officers think that the Maine was destroyed by a Spanish mine." Both of these would be considered to be yellow journalism because the point of yellow journalism was to help push Spain and the United States into war. As presented in the front page of this magazine the author published false articles about the plot to sink the ship Maine (yellow journalism) increasing tension between Spain and the United States.

Using the image of the front page and the knowledge you attained from the lesson, identify the headlines that could be described as yellow journalism and explain how these headlines and their stories might have played a major role in U.S. involvement in the Spanish-American War.
The headlines that could be described as yellow journalism are "Destruction of the War Ship Maine was the Work of an Enemy," and "Naval Officers think that the Maine was Destroyed by a Spanish Mine." Yellow journalism was a type of journalism that was used to intentionally present false or exaggerated information to promote a certain political agenda during the time. The headlines about the sinking of the USS Maine could have played a major role in U.S. involvement in the Spanish-American War since these headlines intensified the public cry for U.S. involvement in the war. In addition, these headlines increased public sentiments and made it more likely for politicians to support the war as well.
