the french revolutionary army helped create modern nationalism by defeating the great empires of Europe. The leader of the french revolutionary army was Napoleon. Many of the people he "conquered" were happy. They loved the ideals of revolution. The french were justly proud of their country and of their accomplishments. They were a real nation, a people who shared the same language, culture, history, and ethnic background.
