The environment influenced the cultures of the Northwest and Southwest in different ways. The Northwest had lots of water, like rivers and oceans, so the people there were good at fishing and trading with each other. They also made totem poles and canoes out of the trees in the forests. In the Southwest, there was less water, so the people had to learn how to farm and use irrigation to grow crops like corn and beans. They also built big houses out of adobe bricks to stay cool in the hot desert. So, the environment shaped how the people in each region lived, what they ate, and how they built their homes.
