How did 'Assiniboia' come into being? How did the arrival of settlers threaten the fur trader's way of life? What was the 'pemmican proclamation'--how did this lead to war? What was the result? Who was George Simpson--what did he do for Rupert's Land?
The assiniboia came into being by Selkirk. Selkirk was given the rights to settle an area of thousands of square kilometres which he named "Assiniboia." The arrival of settlers threatened the fur trader's way of life because they were taking up some of the land that they were using for their own benefit. The pemmican procalamation was something forbidding the export of pemmican from the red river. This lead to war by the NWC thinking that the HBC planned the colony as a way to ruin it. The result of this was not very good. Lots of HBc emplyees were killed . Selkirk also ended up dying because of the NWC, they sued him. George simpson was the new governor of Rupert's Land. He was capable, tough, a dictatot, and he fired as well as punished employees. He travelled all over, personally checking out hisposts. He helped restore dwindling stocks of fur-bearing animals.
Please add any moe information, and check to see if this is correct, thanks. Is there some info in here which I could take out(that is not important?)

How did Selkirk die? It certainly wasn't because the NWC sued him, was it?
Selkirk lost a great deal of money after the Nor'westers sued him. A year after he died, in 1821.
