How can differences in solubility be used to separate a mixture of solids?

Is that not obvious? Compound A dissolves slightly in cold water but all will dissolve in hot water. Compound B dissolves easily in cold and hot water. So a mixture of A and B gets dissolved in a minimum of hot water, then the solution is allowed to cool, and compound A crystallizes while compound B stays in solution. Viola! Mixture separated.
